I posted this to my photo blog and wondered what people could do with it. If you’re so inclined, I’d love to see what words (or other art forms) you can make, with this as inspiration. It’s not a great photo, but it’s a pretty cool sign.

NO VACANCY TONIGHT:
Carol and William had an unusual relationship.
It may have been unusual but it worked.
After university they traveled to Korea and it was there that they discovered a tradition that they would modify and take as their own.
In Korea a married couple would receive a pair of carved wooden ducks. They would be displayed in a prominent place in the married couple’s home.
When the man would come home from work he would discretely look at the ducks and if they were facing each other he would know that his wife was amenable to love making on that evening. If they were facing away then she was not in the mood.
Carol and William employed the ‘vacancy’ sign, the meaning was obvious.
FOUR EMPTY CHAIRS:
Reyes Polio, Darren Sylvest, Robert Zadrozny and Gavin Fernadez were friends since kindergarten but somewhere along the line there was a falling out.
No one was sure if it was money or a fight over a girl but either way they had not spoken for more than a decade.
It was a remarkable friendship that had lasted through many disasters so there was always hope.
Elizebeth Reedholm, who knew all four men decided to do something about the situation.
After a lot of cajoling she managed to arrange a get together at a local outdoor cafe.
You could feel the tension as the four men arrived and the early success was not to last. Someone said something and the old wounds opened up and all four men left in a huff.
The empty table and chairs a testament to pride and ill chosen words.
I really like those; thanks for joining in. I can the see the first one as the basis of a romantic comedy or a two-person play. The second feels like a moody “foreign” film. Nicely done!
